Lars Bangert Struwe holds a PhD in history and is a Senior Adviser on Security Policy specialising in geopolitics, strategy and military affairs. He advises companies, public authorities and organisations on how great-power competition, armed conflict and changes in the international security environment affect their risks and strategic options.

He has particular expertise in naval and maritime affairs. Lars has taught strategy and naval warfare at the Royal Danish Defence College and the Royal Danish Naval Academy and has written reports on the future of the Royal Danish Navy and the future of warfare. He also advised the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Denmark’s counter-piracy strategy and has given presentations on the maritime domain—particularly developments in the underwater domain—to organisations including the Danish Society of Engineers (IDA) and Søe-Lieutenant-Selskabet (the Danish naval lieutenants’ Society).

Lars has worked with geopolitics, strategy and defence policy across several parts of Denmark’s national security establishment. He served as Acting Head of Department and Special Adviser at the Danish Ministry of Defence, as a researcher at the Centre for Military Studies at the University of Copenhagen, and at Defence Command Denmark. As Secretary General of the Danish Atlantic Council, he led the organisation’s work on NATO, Danish defence and transatlantic security for almost a decade.
